Synopsis

Anne, an enthusiastic poet, and dreamer, is haunted, not by anything supernatural, but by an enemy within herself, The Fiend. It is of her own creation, shadowing and tormenting her as she struggles to connect with others. Anne approaches Justin, a young co-worker who she is attracted to, intending to invite him to an open-mic poetry slam. Her Fiend and a female competitor (Jenna), threaten to undermine her efforts. Jenna is everything Anne wishes she could be, or perhaps thinks she should be. Anne’s insecurities feed the Fiend, a manifestation of her anxieties. Before approaching Justin, Anne is sabotaged by Jenna who has overheard her rehearsing an invitation to Justin; Jenna invites him first. Despite the setback, Anne decides to finish her poem and chooses to head to the Poetry slam alone. There, she is confronted by fear of humiliation and rejection. Her Fiend haunts her as always, but she gathers the strength to confront it through her poetry. Jenna, realizing that Justin is more attracted to Anne, moves on to another man. Justin and Anne unite for a moment, truly seeing each other for the first time.
